AREAS OF EXPERTISE

Health

Clegg & Associates has provided expertise on a wide variety of health-related issues during its twenty years of operation.  Ranging from public health to primary care, Clegg & Associates has assisted many clients in attaining their organizations' health-related goals.

Project types

Our focus in the health field is on improving the health status of communities through community mobilization, planning and implementation of critical health services, and redesign of health systems to yield better care.  Our work involves a variety of project types:

  • Facilitating groups of community members to identify critical health issues and develop strategies to address them, e.g., healthy communities projects
  • Assisting public health officials in the design and implementation of high-level policies and controversial services
  • Leading stakeholder groups in decision-making regarding the addition of primary care services to underserved areas

For many communities, providing access to quality health care is a continuing struggle. The lack of providers serving Medicaid residents, the restrictions on services due to politically-imposed constraints, and the ever-changing eligibility requirements for government-funded services prevent many adults and children from receiving basic medical and dental services.

Community mobilization as a way to overcome obstacles

Community mobilization efforts can bring additional health services to these areas and improve the public’s resulting health status over time. Healthy Communities projects that bring together health care, human services, business, government, and other local advocates have made major contributions to the availability of basic health services in many communities. Task forces that advocate for controversial health programs like teen health clinics and needle exchange programs have overcome inertia or politically-based opposition to bring these services to many communities.

Services

Our approach to adding health care capacity in communities reflects three underlying characteristics:

  • We work with local public health officials to bring together a stakeholder group that has the capability to effect change
  • We provide the group with the information and research it needs to reach well-founded decisions about how to add service capacity in the community
  • We pay close attention to the implementation end of the process – we don’t produce plans that sit on shelves, we ensure that service capacity is addressed

Clegg & Associates brings the expertise necessary to mobilize this type of action:

  • Expert facilitation skills
  • Proven leadership development ability
  • In-depth understanding of public health issues
